Archie Manning is all for an Odell Beckham-Giants reunion

Just about everybody has an opinion on Odell Beckham Jr., and some are more valuable than others. As a lifelong Giants fan whose son used to throw enough footballs to Beckham to land the receiver in three straight Pro Bowls, Archie Manning has a take that is worth more than most.

And the former NFL quarterback and father of two-time Super Bowl champs Eli and Peyton Manning believes it would be a good idea for the Giants to sign the free agent who helped the Rams win it all last year, and who is reported to be nearing a full recovery from knee surgery.

“I’ve always admired Odell’s ability,” Archie Manning told The Post on Wednesday. “I know he’s had a couple of injures, but you know Odell’s ability is such that he can come back from an injury and still be a great athlete. I frankly have always said that Odell never should have left New York. If Odell would have just gone straight ahead, just played, and disregarded the other stuff, I always thought he would have owned New York.”

But yeah, there was the “other stuff,” a long list of high-maintenance things Beckham did or said that subtracted from his greatness on the field. One item on the list was Beckham’s 2018 interview with Josina Anderson — with Lil Wayne sitting in — and his contention that the offense was holding him back, along with his suggestion that an aging Eli was part of the problem.

The Giants traded Beckham to Cleveland following that season. But Archie Manning remained a fan of the receiver, who had played his high school ball at Isidore Newman in New Orleans, where Archie’s three sons played and where his grandsons Arch and Heid are playing now. Asked if he thought the 30-year-old Beckham would make the Giants a more dangerous team, Archie Manning said:

“I think so. I would like to see it. Odell will certainly make plays for them. And I think sometimes as you get older you get wiser, you know?”
