“President Donald trump has made it clear that the government will not re-open until the border barrier is approved
As reported by CNN, negotiations between congressional Democrats and the Trump administration over the President’s demands for a border wall have so far not yielded an agreement, and the shutdown will continue until at least Thursday, when the Senate returns to Washington.
“I can’t tell you when the government is going to be open. I can tell you it’s not going to be open until we have a wall, a fence, whatever they would like to call it,” Trump said in the Oval Office after a Christmas call with military troops.
“There is a problem in this world today called human trafficking…We are not going to let that take place. We are working so hard to catch these traffickers…We can’t do it without a barrier…without a wall. It’s my hope to have this done, completed — all 500 to 550 miles — to have it either renovated or brand new by election time,” he said.
Focusing on local areas dealing with the influx of migrants and expressing his take on the effectiveness of drones alone he contended, the people of San Diego wanted the wall built, adding, “People were walking through Mexico right into San Diego, right over people’s front lawns by the hundreds, by the thousands. And they came to us, they asked for a wall… A drone isn’t going to stop it.”
Trump also said he plans to go the new stretch of the wall near the end of January.
“It’s going to be built, hopefully rapidly,” he said. “I’m going there at the end of January for the start of construction. That’s a big stretch.”
“We’re almost having a groundbreaking, it’s such a big section,” he said. “It’s probably the biggest section we’ll get out.”
The wall has been a hot topic among Trump’s base of late. Some of his most influential supporters have began to show disapproval for the lack of progress in its regard, including the likes of Ann Coulter and Conservative author Mick Cernovich.”
