McConnell fires back at Pelosi
As Democrats prepared to retake the House on Thursday, they did so with a harsh warning from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who let them know that if their party does not “get serious about border security,” their bills will all be “non-starters.”
Echoing a statement from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who recently called the issue of funding for President Trump’s planned border wall a “non-starter,” McConnell admonished Democrats for their continued efforts to block boosts to border security.
“The legislation that House Democrats are reportedly planning to introduce would not be a serious contribution to these negotiations,” McConnell said on Wednesday, going on to say that the bill “isn’t comprehensive” and “ignores the needs of border security.”
“It’s exactly the kind of proposal you’d expect if the incoming House Democrats were choosing to stage a political sideshow, rather than do the hard work of helping to govern the country,” said McConnell, adding, “A total non-starter.”
